Charlotte Trimm

Charlotte Trimm - Dulux Colour Chart

Charlotte Trimm is a systems artist from South Wales, she studied at the University of Wales Newport gaining a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art in 2010.  Her practice deals with aspects of repetition, process and she has methodological approach to the creation of work.

Often describing herself as suffering from art induced, obsessive compulsive disorder her approach to work often manifests itself in a neurotic style, which results in works with recurring forms with lines and linear structures becoming an almost necessary feature.

A fascination with colour has lead to pieces which explore the processes by which colour can be manipulated.  Recently she has also begun to explore papercutting and applies the same methodical approach to these works, the images are meticulously produced draw and cut by hand making each piece unique.

Charlotte Trimm - Chromatics

‘Chromatics’ is an ongoing series of works that is concerned with colour, an exploration of its creation and theory.  Each incarnation of the series has explored colour in different ways, 'Chromatics 2009' is a precise reproduction of Dulux paint range and was a study of colour theory and the ways in which colour can be manipulated.

'Chromatics 2010' uses a limited palette to create a vast variation of colours. It also uses a precise method of application and a controlled amount of paint for each line, each painting is unique with a juxtaposition of controlled application and the organic formation of the lines, much of the final result is down to chance, the paint being allowed to flow in an organic manner to form each line, making its own unique path.

The pursuit of the perfect line is evident and the merging or meandering line considered a failure.'

Ella Edwards

Ella Edwards Art Exhibition

Originally from Shropshire, Ella came to South Wales to train as a nurse and has since settled in Newport with her young family.  Ella combines family life with her art practice, achieving a first class honours degree in Fine Art from Newport School of Art in 2010.

Her painting practice is founded on the simple combination of line and the myriad qualities of paint.  Working in a broadly figurative genre Ella’s practice can be likened to a distillation of human experiences, and developed through processes of the memory and imagination. Sources of inspiration are being explored currently through observing the locally based Ballet Cymru.

Selected exhibitions include the forthcoming ‘Curatorial Choices 2’, Bay Art Cardiff, May 2011; University of Glamorgan’s Purchase Prize 2010, and twice being selected for The Welsh Artist of the Year Exhibition at St David’s Hall Cardiff. Commissions have been acquired which include school murals, and a Newport Superdragon titled ‘Newport’s Great Outdoors’.

Rowena Clee

Images that capture shape, colour and texture have been a continuous source of documentation and a painting resource for Welsh art graduate Ro Clee.

Ro exhibits a variety of work from the initial photographs to images that have been drawn and painted upon. Each work begins with a photograph which is then extended using techniques such as sewing, painting and drawing.

Experimentation with a variety of materials and painting tools stimulate Ro's work. Often chance happenings occur throughout the creative process, these are never taken away and are always presented in the final piece.

Chance and control are elements that continue to influence Ro's work today and since graduating she has continued to practice as an artist, drawing and painting the Welsh landscape.

Exploring the world on her doorstep has led to a continued interest in capturing the world we see around us and the unexpected beauty we may take for granted in our day to day lives.
